My Walk

My greatest desire is to have depth with my walk with Christ.

Now I don’t mean weirdness, just depth.

To know Him. Passionately. Personally.

There is no short cut to an intimate walk with Christ.

It is a daily consistent thing.

No conference will do it, no preacher can do it - all of these things can be catalysts, but not  an ongoing sustenance.

Adam Clarke said:

“The grand secret is to save time. Spend none needlessly. Keep from all unnecessary company. Never be without a praying heart, and have as often as possible a book in your hand”.

Leaders and Humility

Leaders are often tempted by the sin of pride. In fact, the besetting sin of leadership may be the tendency to think more of oneself than one ought. When people are following your lead, constantly praising you, looking up to you and admiring you, it is too easy to be overcome with pride.

Leadership, especially with young or immature Christian leadership should install a system of checks and balances through mature relationship. This protects themselves and the people who are working for them.

A real leader is someone who serves, not someone who demands to be waited on.

This is a hard lesson for many natural leaders to learn. They tend to see people as a means to an end. Leaders are usually task-orientated rather than people-orientated. So they often use people, or run over people in order to achieve their goals.

Frank Houston taught me that church was about God and people.

It is about loving God and loving people.

It doesn’t get any simpler than that and it doesn’t get any harder.

Hurricane Shopping

images

It’s official!
According to the Weather Channel, National Hurricane Center, and Wal-Mart…The number two items that are purchased in the shopping frenzy preceding
the landfall of a forecasted hurricane are in this order:

1. BEER
2. POP TARTS

You can imagine…. “Honey, I got it covered, I’ll take care of it, I am going to             Wal-Mart.”

The only other thing missing is a generator to make sure the beer doesn’t get warm and the toaster works!

Men saving the world!!

You got to love it!

Perfect Marriage

WinkJust finished our first recordings for Guy Thing Radio - a show dedicated to men’s issues. I was talking with the fellas about ‘the perfect marriage’.

My thought is there is no such thing. A perfect marriage means it would have to have perfect people involved…. and they don’t exist. What we have is a commitment to a perfect Saviour that enables imperfect people to accomplish impossible things…. live under the same roof for 16 years and not kill each other. Wink

Press Release

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department issued a statement today
saying Vice President Cheney broke no law by shooting a lawyer
instead of a quail over the weekend.

Further, a TPWD spokesman noted that, in Texas, lawyers are not
considered game creatures, and are thus not subject to seasonal
limitations — or bag limits.  It was further stated that lawyer hunting
was encouraged as the state is overrun with the pesky creatures.

A local food critic said that, contrary to rumor, lawyers do not taste like chicken, but rather like bovine dung which is a major component of their essential nature.

The Return of Patriarchy? Fatherhood and the Future of Civilization

becker

Patriarchy does not simply mean that men rule.

Indeed, it is a particular value system that not only requires men to marry but to marry a woman of proper station. It competes with many other male visions of the good life, and for that reason alone is prone to come in cycles. Yet before it degenerates, it is a cultural regime that serves to keep birthrates high among the affluent, while also maximizing parents’ investments in their children. No advanced civilization has yet learned how to endure without it.

Through a process of cultural evolution, societies that adopted this particular social system—which involves far more than simple male domination—maximized their population and therefore their power, whereas those that didn’t were either overrun or absorbed. This cycle in human history may be obnoxious to the enlightened, but it is set to make a comeback.

Societies that are today the most secular and the most generous with their under-funded welfare states will be the most prone to religious revivals and a rebirth of the patriarchal family. The absolute population of Europe and Japan may fall dramatically, but the remaining population will, by a process similar to survival of the fittest, be adapted to a new environment in which no one can rely on government to replace the family, and in which a patriarchal God commands family members to suppress their individualism and submit to father.

First the Natural

There is no point praying for God to help your marriage if you are not first operating in grace within your marriage or if you are actively involved in attitudes or behaviors that are harmful to your marriage. First the natural, then the spiritual.

There is no point praying God prosper me if you won’t get out of bed before 10am each day and look for a job. First the natural, then the spiritual.

There is no point praying God heal me if you are 200lb overweight and sitting in McDonalds eating a quater-pounder while doing your quite time. First the natural, then the spiritual.

Responsibility is our Ability to Respond. What are you after and what do you need to do to get there - First the natural, then your belief for God to make a way.

You maybe a fatty, stop eating garbage, get to the gym and believe God for supernatural strength and results – that’s faith in action!
